Wooden Spoons is a studio kitchen in Central Iowa and is the home to hands on Culinary Workshops and Cooking Classes for all food lovers in Ankeny, Des Moines, and beyond, catering to the needs of beginners, foodies, and culinary experts alike.
I am Deb Cazavilan, the chef and instructor at Wooden Spoons, and would love to welcome you into my kitchen. You'll find a warm friendly atmosphere with lots of interaction and great conversations with friends, new and old. . . centered around our common love for FOOD!
In addition to the classes I offer on my calendar pages, you'll find that I also make room for private parties and team building events centered around preparing and enjoying great food together. Call or email for more information.
I began offering cooking and baking lessons in the kitchen of my former restaurant, The Little Blue House, in Ankeny in 2004 . In 2009, I opened Wooden Spoons and Apron Strings in a building my husband and I remodeled as a kitchen classroom designed for groups of 8-12 students.
Can YOU Bake a Cherry Pie? (I can!!)
In addition to teaching how, I occasionally find time to create mouth watering PIES, (available by arrangement) including the award winning Chocoholic's favorite, Ankeny Mudslide Pie, created for my first restaurant, Cappuccino’s in 1993.
So, What's NEW at Wooden Spoons? BUY FRESH-BUY LOCAL-BUY ORGANIC!
I love the quote that we get THREE times each day to Vote... Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner! Personally, I vote with my Fork and my Pocketbook! I am committed to providing Whole, Organic, Fresh and GMO FREE foods for my family, and my passion for this direction makes it's way into all my classes. My kitchen pantry has been getting a RADICAL "makeover" to reflect a higher standard. In 2013, my commitment is to buy, use and teach with ORGANIC, Local, and Non-GMO products, wherever humanly possible and help my students source the best ingredients as well.
